What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign treatments gently improve the alignment of your teeth with a series of translucent aligner trays. Each tray is custom-made to fit comfortably and securely, and the treatment works by applying gentle pressure over time. If you have mild to moderate alignment issues, our Invisalign process is a great way to address them subtly with minimal impact on your daily life.
Invisalign treatments rely on you taking responsibility for your treatment because the trays are removable. Therefore, we generally recommend treatment for responsible adults and teens who are comfortable following the process guidelines. You must wear your trays for at least 22 hours a day, and the treatment period can range from 6-18 months, depending on your situation. We'll be there every step of the way to offer tips and answer any questions you might have so you can enjoy your beautiful, straighter smile as quickly as possible.
Is Invisalign a Good Option For Me?
Invisalign is a versatile choice and works well for a diverse range of mild to moderate dental alignment issues. Our treatments can help you if you have:
- Crowding
- Crooked teeth
- Unwanted gaps between teeth
- Underbite
- Overbite
Our skilled dentist will take the time to evaluate all of your needs and determine whether clear aligners are an effective option for your unique smile goals. If we find that your orthodontic treatment requirements are more advanced, we may be able to provide traditional braces or refer you to a trusted specialist who can properly address your complex misalignment situation.
Our Invisalign Treatment Process
We begin your orthodontic care with a thorough dental exam and consultation about your concerns and goals. If we determine clear aligners are the most effective choice for your situation, we'll take highly precise dental impressions using our iTero® digital scanner. The scanner unit is ergonomically designed for your comfort and avoids the need for uncomfortable putty impressions. Using this impression as a baseline model for your treatment process, we'll work with a trusted dental lab to create your custom Invisalign clear aligner trays.
Once we receive your trays, you'll return for an appointment where we will check your first set of trays and ensure they're comfortable and securely fitted to your teeth. At this time, we'll also provide helpful information and tips about best practices for successful treatment and guidelines for caring for your trays.
Vivera® Retainers to Protect Your Smile Results
When your Invisalign treatment ends, you need a way to maintain your results and ensure your teeth don't shift before your bite stabilizes. Our practice offers discreet Vivera retainers made from the same durable, translucent material as your Invisalign trays. Your comfortable and convenient Vivera retainer will make it easy to protect your smile results. We'll go over how long and often you'll have to wear your it and can answer any questions you might have when your Invisalign treatment finishes.
How to Care For Your Invisalign Trays
Caring for your aligner trays is straightforward and vital to achieving successful results. Some of the things you will want to watch out for when caring for them include:
Eating & Drinking: You should remove your Invisalign trays when eating or drinking anything other than water. After you finish eating or drinking, brushing your teeth is recommended to help avoid trapping any food or liquid within the tray. Trapped food or liquid in the trays can cause discoloration, foul odors, and cavities if proper hygiene isn't performed regularly.
Caring For Your Aligners: It's best to rinse your aligners with water before putting them back on whenever you take them off. Maintenance of your aligners is important, and you should brush and wash them at least once daily. We recommend using a soft-bristled toothbrush and clear, unscented antibacterial soap to clean your trays. After washing them, thoroughly rinse the soap off with water before replacing them. Using a hard-bristled toothbrush or toothpaste to clean them can scratch the aligners and should be avoided.
Keeping Your Aligners Safe: Because the aligners are relatively small and translucent, they can get misplaced or lost. We recommend putting them in the provided case whenever you take them off to avoid accidentally throwing them away or leaving them somewhere. If you do lose a tray, our dentist recommends wearing the previous set of trays until we can replace the lost tray or trays.
